Hi Everyone
I’m cooperating with Covington & Burling to submit an amicus brief with ACLU for their TRO motion against the latest abomination, the attempt to bar virtually all asylum seekers arriving at the southern border by requiring everyone to first file for asylum in a country of transit and most likely Guatemala or Mexico. Anyone who can’t show that they’ve filed and received a rejection from that country is barred from raising asylum in the US. Unfortunately there’s a really short turnaround, the brief must be filed this Sunday for arguments on Wednesday in the 9th. I’m submitting as an expert based upon my most recent position as a supervisory asylum officer who has done adjudication son the border and refugee adjudications in El Salvador. If anyone would like to see a draft of the brief ready hopefully by tomorrow and consider adding their name to it please let me know Also if someone has the address for Paul Schmidt or would like to forward this to other retired IJs please do so.
Thanks!

I’m in. Hope others will join the ACLU’s effort to defend American Justice (not related in any way to the U.S. Department of “Justice”)!
